You can make your character look like anything you want, from a rainbow bright complexion to a celebrity look alike. It gives you a little hint into the extreme flexibility and creative freedom players can achieve during Character Creation. NOTE: The Character Creator image of the giant with the flaming mohawk was one of the winners in a past Character Creation event called Beauty and Beast. Then, after a blissful nights sleep, you will wake up to a HAETA instead of META. Trying to always have a META class is an ongoing adventure because the developers frequently change classes to maintain class balance. There are plenty of group activities to take part in, but you don’t have to scrap the whole party just because you can’t find a healer or tank. With the help of potions, any class can easily heal and regenerate power for themselves. Solo play is usually the norm in BDO, especially at lower levels.
Any rag tag group of adventurers will probably be successful, as long as they are the correct level and have good gear. For example, the “trinity” of tank, damage dealer, and healer classes are not required in BDO. It’s not exactly Character Creator: The Game in the full sense of what I wanted, but it’s not a bad start either. This isn’t maybe quite as mind-blowing as I thought it was years ago when this creator first debuted, but it’s pretty fun all the same if you’re a fan of creative character design like I am. I advise you to save your design, rather than the character, which will allow you further tweaks.
I also wish that once you completed your creation, you were able to go back and edit it again, as you can’t. I wish that you were able to custom equip them with a wide range of armor and gear, rather than a handful of preset outfits the game shows you. And as this is a fantasy RPG, you can start doing all sorts of crazy stuff like giving your character glowing, star-shaped pupils. The scaling system that allows you to tweak various “zone” on the face, hair and body is a good way to morph pretty much all aspects of your character. Once you really dig into customization, you can start veering away from these presets, but it’s a fine line between “good looking” and “monster” at times. Most of my creations end up looking like Kristin Kreuk (though I'm not complaining). For the female Ranger class it’s hard to make your character not look like a gorgeous K-pop star. For the Warrior class, for example, all the preset faces will look like a buff chiseled white dude that resembles a cross between an American Gladiator and Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. What I did find interesting was the relative similarity among the custom faces, which I’m not really used to playing most western games. Whatever, since this is just a creator, I suppose all that doesn’t really matter. This is unlike most games where you can have any gender/race be any class, and there’s probably lore behind this I don’t know about. In the creator, your characters gender and even general appearance is based on their class alone. I really doubt that will happen with me, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to fill up all my creation slots all the same. Presumably the point of this release is to get people hooked on the creator and then wanting to see their created characters in the game itself.
